The path from town is veiled in mist. Leaves crunch underfoot. One by one they melt to red as the haze thickens. Their vivid color stark against the pale snow that shrouds the world, blanketing the branches and smothering the leaves. Like a beacon in the gloom, crimson against dark branches. Their fiery presence is both omen and promise. Fireflies light the path on the darkest nights. Distant wisps dance on phantom breezes. They bob and weave in the presence of travelers. Each one offers guidance to travelers, to lead them on their way. But to where? |
