The bones of the old world stand amongst the trees. Rock pillars, train tracks, shards of glass. Relics of cultures and people long-forgotten lay tangled in gnarled roots. Light filters green through the dense leaves. Mist clings between the branches. Far off shapes are obscured by a dense fog that never seems to lift. Moss thrives in the damp. Fallen leaves line narrow dirt footpaths through the hazy green. Stone structures sag and lean, more vine than rock, some reduced to single arches or decrepit walls. Shadows shift and weave in the periphery. What lurks in the gloom is unknown, even to those who live in this place. The warning rings loud and clear. Do not get lost. |
