Adrift in a sea of grass, one might find themselves lost in the infinite stalks. They stretch endlessly as far as the eye can see, their waves broken only by the faces of soaring mesas. The curving wind-swept faces might not draw the attention of those who travel the grassland. From a distance, one might miss the edifices carved into the stone walls. Openings at the seams of the mesa reveal the sprawling settlement growing in the safety of the shade. In the embrace of the rock walls, travelers can find refuge from the wind and sun. Harder to miss is the massive central tree of the grandest of these mesas. The boughs shelter the generator that sustains Catarem, the oasis of the plains. |
