With the party in full swing and the excited kebanzu talking all around him, Devos wondered if he shouldn’t have agreed to go to this costume contest with his siblings. He hadn’t even tried that hard on his costume, deciding to just wrap himself in bandages like a mummy.

Although as a short blur of pink grabbed onto his arm, he was relieved to see his youngest brother, Amor.

Amor’s own costume was simple like his brothers, he had a fake pink bow and arrow with heart clipped into his fur all over. He called himself the Cupid of Fall, even if the day of love was in Winter. “There you are, Devos, Isidore and Jacqueline are looking for you! They wanted your opinion on their costumes.”

Devos sighed, “Alright, show me where they are.”

Amor was quick to pull his brother along, until they finally found their siblings through a sea of bodies and people laughing almost too loudly.

Isidore was the first to spot them. “Devos! Come here, what do you think of my costume?”

As always, Isidore went all out on his costume’s theme and execution. His glittery pink clothes were practically seamless as a pair of gleaming diamonds surrounded his neck and a rose gold tiara on his head. Isidore was the picture of Halloween royalty. “Was being a pink prince too much? I borrowed some of dad’s jewelry.”

Devos raised an eyebrow, “Did you ask-“

Jacequeline cut in quickly, “Look at my costume Devos, Isidore decided to do sibling costumes.” True to her word, Jacqueline had her own precious gems, a tiara and a puffy ballgown. “I tried to get Isidore to wear the same, but he refused to wear a dress.”

“I think it’s nice,” Amor shyly answered.

The pair huffed and Jacqueline crossed her arms, “We know you do, but we’re asking Devos.”

Before Devos could even open his mouth, another kebanzu appeared beside them. It was Sam O’Hain! The Herald of Fall!

“Well now!” Sam looked Isidore and Jacqueline up and down. “You two put quite a lot of effort into your costumes! That’s what I like to see.”

Isidore and Jacqueline laughed bashfully as they posed, of course they were more than a little happy to hear the Herald liked their costumes. “Well, we want to win.”

Sam nodded, before looking at Devos and Amor. “Oh? A mummy and Cupid? That’s fun!” He nodded quickly, “I’m always happy to see all the ideas everyone comes up with.”

Amor looked shyly down, “I thought it would be a fun costume.”

Meanwhile, Devos, simply shrugged, “I wanted an easy costume.”

Sam agreed, “Any costume someone wants to wear is a good one, as long as it makes you and others happy. Oh! Look at the time! It’s time to announce my winners.”

The Herald waved them away as he walked off, laughing as he made his way to the stage. This really was the best time of year, he couldn’t wait to announce who won.
