After drifting in the vastness of space on a generations-long voyage, the Rens of the fleet Alpha-Anari felt great relief upon finding the world of Terramesia. It had been a long time since they had seen a planet with a lush blossoming ecosystem and flourishing societies. For a while, they observed from their space stations as orbiting satellites. It was not long before they decided that this world would be more than suitable for them.
They began to seek out a place for themselves on this planet. As they searched for a place for their settlement, they came across geomagnetic anomalies. To their amazement, there were large islands suspended in the air, aloft and unclaimed. The Rens were able to tether their stations and begin creating homes on these floating islands west of the Traveling Trees.
Atop the island’s trees, Ren Fair built their homes. Concentric platforms made of wood were suspended by rope and twine. Ladders and bridges of all shapes and sizes connected these platforms from tree to tree. Fine tapestries and hand-woven cloths of all colors decorated the platforms. There were flags, ribbons, and banners of all sorts creating an elaborate and delightfully kitschy sort of display.
As Rens are a very peace-loving and artistic sort of people, they prefer the company of those who share the same values. They are not interested in and have a strong aversion to war and upset. Their ideals lie in the realm of the arts and self-expression. They look to better themselves through knowledge and creativity.
Thanks to the Ren’s bright decorations and eclectic styles, the floating islands were alight with life and vivacity. These floating fairs became the talk of many terrasiders near and far. It was with great curiosity that many came to see the Rens and meet these new settlers.
It was these eclectic sensibilities that captured the attention of the Kebanzu. The Kebs approached tentatively at first and disguised as humans. Over time, the two came to a mutual understanding as displaced races. Though the circumstances were different, they found kindred spirits in the Kebanzu.
As they slowly built a peaceful relationship with the Kebanzu people, Rens were given more insight on magic and its properties and schooling. Magic is not common or widely known amongst their people. Most Ren’s who can use magic have spent a good deal of time learning and perfecting their craft.
While studying beside the Kebanzu, the Ren Fair mages were able to pick up and learn new abilities such as creating seals. Seals combine the usage of components and innate magic to create circles of power. Rens who are able to channel these abilities can create seals of lesser healing, druidcraft, and transformation.
Using these seals, Rens have been able to achieve both Taur and Faun forms. These two forms allow them to interact with more ease and less of a species gap between them and the inhabitants of Terramesia.
Being spacefarers, Ren’s have their own specialized form of technology. The Pychotech has an appearance similar to that of mercury. It can only be controlled by Ren Fair thought and thus it can only be used and harnessed by them. Using this technology, Rens were able to craft their ships for traveling across the vastness of space. Due to its inherent flexibility, the Psychotech was designed to be sculpted and perfected into a habitable aeronautic vehicle.
Because of a seemingly limitless utilization, this advanced form of technology is somewhat controversial on Terramesia. While Rens would never use it in a threatening or harmful manner, the sheer ability and versatility can be seen as a possible hazard as there is little defense against it.
As one of their greatest codes of conduct is “do no harm”, the Ren Fair have assured those who are wary that their technology is only for that of good. As an olive branch so to speak, they have offered up their knowledge in medicines, agriculture, and building styles.
Being a relatively new and neutral party, Rens preferred to observe and watch rather than get involved in Mesian politics. While their ideals closely align with those of the Kebanzu, they are not eager to jump into any sort of dispute. They are open to trade and communication with the other species of Terramesia, but they are not interested in any sort of contention.
That is why when the Great Wars began the Ren Fairs found themselves in a precarious situation. They feared the world would meet the same as Xzen, their homeworld. The Rens had come to cherish the world of Terramesia, and thought of it as their home. However, as a pacifist race, they could not involve themselves in the conflict. When their Kebanzu allies went into hibernation, so did the Ren Fair. They retreated to their ships to wait and observe.
It became clear to them soon after the wars began that this conflict was not the same as the one that had sundered their former home. So, they waited high above the atmosphere, watching and hoping nothing but a swift resolution for the conflict.
Though it was not swift, the conflict did eventually come to an end. It was not until the Kebanzu awoke from their hibernation that the Rens emerged from their own rest. More and more of them have returned to Terramesia to rebuild the homes they had made.
The Ren Fair have begun to rebuild their rapports with the other races. They have good relationships with are the Sahir and most humans. They are more withdrawn from the more antagonistic human civilizations as well as the Taenin. While they would not outright state alliances or enemies, they are welcoming or warry depending on who they come into contact with.
Now in this new era of peace, the Ren Fair have found their new niche, and are focused on maintaining positive relationships and learning how to coexist peacefully and productively.
